About Me

Hi!

Before I dive in, I’d like to answer your most pressing question. No, my parents did not think I was going to be a boy. They named me Tyler on purpose. My mom picked out the name Tyler during her second trimester. In fact, she and my dad were forward-thinking in the 1980s. They figured it’d be pretty neat if their Black daughter was mistaken for a white man every day of her life.

Here we are. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, welcome!

My name is Girl Tyler and I’m a former news producer turned comedy writer from South Carolina. I received my B.A. in Mass Communication (Broadcasting) from Winthrop University and over the last decade, I’ve worked as a TV producer and freelance writer. Along the way, I’ve managed to align my humor and journalism background.  I am an Associate Producer on three upcoming documentaries on BET (Disrupt & Dismantle with Soledad O’Brien), PBS (Downing of a Flag), and Amazon (TBA).

Professionally, one would say I’m a writer. The truth is, I love working on various entertainment and media-related projects. I’ve worked with organizations like the American Black Film Festival, worked as a PA on an episode of Hoarders, and fulfill marketing copy needs for digital brands like Izzy & Liv.

TV is my first love and I am currently developing my first feature. I’m repped by Haven Entertainment.
