D.L. Hughley Opens Up About His Son’s Struggles with Asperger’s Syndrome

Fans of  D.L. Hughley often associate him with laughter and plenty of shenanigans. With his comedy, comes a ball of emotion, particularly a soft spot for his three children. The “Kings of Comedy” star opened up on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” about his personal battles at home, including the ups and downs of raising a son with Asperger’s syndrome

Kyle is 26 years old and has overcome many hurdles over the years after being diagnosed at a young age. His biggest accomplishment, thus far has been successfully graduating college. Even small, every day tasks to us are huge celebrations for the Hughley family.

D.L. opened up about a moment Kyle volunteering to put gas in the car. Hesitant at first, D.L. watched a magical moment happen for his son. He returned with the receipt for gas and the keys and D.L. tearfully said, “I could not stop crying, because he did something he was afraid to do. .. I just didn’t believe he could do it. He did it.” The moment was the confirmation D.L. needed that his would be able to function without him. “And I think sometimes I don’t know for sure, but he’s gonna be fine. He’ll be fine.”

One thing is a constant; D.L. loves his kids.

I met D.L. a few years ago and now have a greater respect for him.
