The hip hop version of “Ladies Night” is most fittingly my new year pick for That’s My Jam Thursday. I rang in 2014 with some pretty awesome ladies that I am oh so grateful to have in my life. Nothing like enjoying life with your girls.

I love this song! What a great combination of skills by Angie Martinez, Lisa “Left Eye’ Lopes, Da Brat, Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliot. Kool and the Gang’s original version is a classic but this makes me wanna get up and bankhead bounce (yes, bankhead bounce lol). I remember knowing all of Left Eye’s (RIP) verse back in elementary school.
All of the female MC’s on this track are some of the best of our time. These new kids could learn a lot. The video is uber awesome with all of the big names in hip hop/R&B/black entertainment of that time. And of course Missy did her thing at the very end!
This song comes from the “Nothing to Lose” soundtrack that I have yet to see in its entirety to this day. Sweet nostalgia.
